What it worked out on its own
The one that carries it is scale: the fact is small and the NUMBER is enormous. “Only 1 in 1,000 survive” works because two of those words are four times the size of the rest.
Every card is a whip pan into the next, so the reel never sits still long enough to be scrolled past — which is the only thing a vertical piece has to get right.
The sea behind it is drawn, not filmed: a handful of sine waves in their own file, moving at different rates. It costs nothing and it never repeats on the beat.
