What it worked out on its own
Subtitles are furniture. Every decision here is the opposite of the kinetic caption reel, and the pair is worth having for exactly that reason.
The line is laid out complete and the words are revealed in place — a subtitle that re-centres on every word is unreadable.
Each plate arrives two frames before its first word: on the same frame it reads as a pop-up, slightly ahead it reads as a caption track.
