What it worked out on its own
The still comes out of the video rather than out of a separate asset, so the two copies agree exactly everywhere the picture is not moving and the mask edge is invisible.
The mask is feathered: a hard edge shows its own outline the moment the live copy drifts a pixel from the frozen one.
The live copy plays forward and back, so the last frame equals the first. Trimming real footage to a loopable section is a fantasy; reversing is exact.
