What it worked out on its own
Half a second is the floor: shorter and a photograph reads as a flicker rather than as a picture. Eight photos at fifteen frames IS the composition.
Each photo arrives at a different scale and corner and keeps pushing through the hold, so no two consecutive frames share a composition.
Two frames of white on every other cut. A flash on all eight is a strobe; on every other one it is the rhythm the missing snare would have carried.
