What it worked out on its own
The line is sung, not merely lit: the accent copy is wiped across it over exactly the frames the line lasts, so the fill answers how long the line is without a bar.
Depth of field does what greying out cannot — the surrounding lines stay readable while it stays unambiguous which one is now.
Accent belongs only to the line happening now. Sung lines settle to full ink and the colour moves on with the voice.
The active line holds the centre of the frame and the verse slides past it, so the type occupies the middle of a 9:16 frame rather than hanging off the top.
