What it worked out on its own
The count is derived from how many shapes have arrived, so it cannot say seven while six are on screen — the one bug in a counting video that actually matters, because a child is checking.
Shapes accumulate rather than replace each other. Counting is cumulative, and it means the last frame is full.
The newest shape keeps a ring for a few frames, so at seven or eight the eye does not have to search the grid for what changed.
